THE DOCTOR OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION DEGREE PROGRAM

The Doctor of Religious Education is the highest academic degree in the theory and practice of Christian Education. It is designed for persons of demonstrated
competence who have served at least three years in Christian Education field with a strong emphasis on intercultural outreach. D.R.E. degree program is suitable for Christian educators and Pastors for a variety of ministries in the life of the Church. In addition to the transfer of foundational and professional skills, the program endeavors to foster the personal and spiritual development of the student.

The D.R.E. program is carried out in a context of ministry. Pastor and congregation/agency together participate in analyzing problems and opportunities and in selecting a project for special attention whereby
Both student and congregation/agency must benefit from a focused and sustained process of learning and growth.
The courses and activities of the seminary provide students with a rich variety of research, study, and peer group exchange which they may bring to their local support group for working out the specific project.

The nature and work of the Doctor of Religious Education program at American Theological Seminary centers in: providing the instruction and environment which
results in observable student mastery of the educational aptitude of:

* Informed Investigation
* Faithful re-formation
* Holistic Integration.

 
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
  1. Entry into this degree program requires the Master of Religious Education degree or its equivalent with a 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale from a recognized seminary. Those without a degree but with substantial
    educational training and experience may be admitted at the discretion of the D.R.E. Committee.
  2. Applicants should have at least three years of full-time experience in educational ministry.
  3. Applicants must submit to the Office of postgraduate Studies a complete application form which Includes a $100 non-refundable application fee.
  4. Applicants must submit official transcripts of all previous academic and professional training beyond high school to the Office of Postgraduate Studies.
  5. Applicants whose native language is not English are required to demonstrate a working ability in the English language by means of an acceptable TOEFL score or some other standard English examination.
 
BASIC REQUIREMENTS-D.R.E. COURSE
Students will successfully complete a minimum of 54 semester hours of course work with a 3.0 grade point average or higher. Individual courses will be regarded as successfully completed only when a grade of B or better is received. The
60 (including dissertation) hours will have the following structure:
